This week I have been in the depths of coaching research, exploring what helps us to rebuild our professional identity.

While there is loads to explore, it brought up the thought of how does research contribute to how coaches can better support professionals navigating their careers.

What makes this more effective, or not?

The truth is, there will never be a 100% accurate answer, as a lot of this depends on several factors.

When, Where, What, How and Why questions pop into the mind, so it can be more complicated than we think.

Trust is one of the most important aspects of coaching conversations, and any talking support.

How is it built?

Through listening, coaches being present but also not being afraid to challenge, which is just as important.

There are plenty of other factors too, such as the circumstances of the coach AND coachee, history, nature of challenges, motivation of coachees and how we all view the world. As this informs how the coach can position their conversations and elicit coachee insight for meaningful progress.

If you've ever been coached or want to be coached, what's most important to you with a coach?
